About the Programme

A study of environmental issues in the ITI system was undertaken in late 2006. As a consequence of this study an Environment Management Framework (EMF) was developed by the Director General of Employment and Training (DGE&T), Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoLE), Govt. of India, utilizing professional services of Centre for Environment Planning and Technology (CEPT) University, Ahmedabad.
One of the recommendations in the framework includes training and capacity building of various target groups to ensure effective implementation of EMF. The Centre for Environment Education (CEE) Ahmedabad, in response to a request from Directorate of Employment and Training, Government of Gujarat has been involved to capacity build ITIs Principals, Coordinators and Social Studies instructors on:
8 training programmes have been conducted. Each programme was of two days duration, for about 150 ITI Principals (3 programmes), 150 Social Studies Instructors (3 programmes) and about 88 Coordinators, Officers of the State Directorate and Master Trainers (2 programmes).
Recent event
On January 20 - 21, 2011, Ms. Shreerupa Mitra, Social Development Specialist, from USAID/ SARI Energy. Ms. Mitra visited some ITIs participating in the project to document the success story and changes brought by the project in students and in ITIs.
