Sub-regional Sustainable Development Strategy (SSDS)

CEE, the SAYEN Secretariat in close partnership with UNEP has developed “We Hold Our Future ” - a publication on the Youth perspectives on Sustainable Development (SD) along with a 15 minute film undertaken as a part of the project “Sub-regional Sustainable Development Strategy ( S SDS ) for South Asia – A Youth Perspective ”.
The first of its kind, “We Hold Our Future is unique as it provides new light for the youth to be a part of the SD activities in South Asia . The youth involved with SSDS believe that they are the future generation, full of potential and enthusiasm. They, as direct stake holders, are always enthusiastic to get involved in the current issues and there should be no hesitation in entrusting responsibility to them.
Written by youth themselves, 8 goals and 23 targets for SD in South Asia have been identified to address the transboundary environmental issues, emphasizing the need to develop strong cultural ties among all nations in the sub-region.
The publication shares some of the best practices from the sub-region and mentions some key actions/ project ideas that youth could undertake/ proposes to be undertaken for SD in South Asia . These include eco-housing, eco-transportation, bio-fertilizer, organic farming, green curriculum, herbal medicine; water shed management, waste management, bicycle lanes, peace concerts etc.

The perspective and recommendations of the Youth attending the Youth Working Session at the Fourth International Conference on Environment Education ( www.tbilisiplus30.org ) has also been inculcated in the publication including the Tree of Sustainability which depicts the youth vision of SD.
The film “We Hold our Future ” reflects the process and content of the publication. Initiatives that motivate the youth or inspire them such as Green Hunt, Street plays at TUNZA International conference etc have been included along with the component on what can be done by them to achieve SD in their country.
“We Hold Our Future ” reflects the vision “Sustainable Development in South Asia through Youth Participation.”
