About the college

Founded in 1825, Gujarat College is the first college in Gujarat state. It has a campus spread over 30 acres area and situated in heart of the city, Ahmedabad. T he college has colonial architecture and was most active during the freedom struggle. The campus includes three colleges i.e., Gujarat Arts & Science College , Gujarat Commerce College and Gujarat Arts & Commerce College , among which Gujarat Arts & Science College is taking part in SamVednaa.

The college campus has a playground, various buildings, labs, a botanical garden, Gandhi Hall, canteen, auditorium, drama hall etc. A Nature Club within the college, registered as an NGO, involves students in various activities like planting trees, maintaining gardens etc.

The college preserves the colonial architecture by renovating the buildings as and when required. Recent renovations include Auditorium, Drama Hall and Chemistry building. New constructions within the campus are being made in such a way that the available resources can be used efficiently.

Within the campus, the chemistry building draws water from the rain water harvesting system present in the building. The college has different species of plants and few trees are found to be 80 years old. Also many bats can be seen on the trees within the college campus.
