Mahadev Desai Gramseva Mahavidyalay, Dept. of Microbiology is a college situated in Sadra, a rural area of Gujarat . The area of the campus is around 1.2 acres and it consists of very old buildings constructed in 1891. There is Biogas Research Centre in the campus which was set up in 1993. Talking about the place Sadra, a village in Gandhinagar district in Gujarat has specific importance. On one side of the college, a fort wall can be seen which was built by the King Ahmed Shah who used to take rest on his way to Delhi . Entering into the village one can see a Victoria Tower of colonial architecture. During Britishers period it was used as a tax collection centre as the village was encircled by three districts- Ahmedabad, Sabarkantha and Banaskantha. During that period, the college was used as an operation theatre and Naturopathy Centre. Later it was given to Gujarat Vidyapith and now we can find Mahadev Desai Gramseva Mahavidyalaya, Dept. of Microbiology.
In early 20 th century, Gandhiji has started five institutions which are as follows
In 1920 Gujarat Vidyapith was established, and in 1963 it was recognized as a Deemed University . In 1978, Mahadev Desai Gramseva Mahavidyalay was started in Sadra which was only for boys and was offering courses in Physical Education and Social Sciences. In 1993, Biogas Research Centre was set up in the campus. From 1995 the Department of Microbiology was started in the college which included B.Sc, M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D courses in Microbiology. At present Mahadev Desai Gramseva Mahavidyaly has two campuses. One campus is completely for Microbiology department and the other campus is for Physical Education and Social Sciences.
The eco-club formed in Mahadev Desai Gramseva Mahavidyalay, Dept. of Microbiology consists of 52 students and the professor, Dr. Nikhil Bhatt is the project in-charge. The eco-club was divided into four teams each working on Energy, Water, Waste management and Biodiversity.
